Favicons for livemarks (Firefox 2)
Use site icons (aka favicons) in place of the default orange icon.
Many websites use specific icons—aka “favicons”—to separate themselves from other sites. When you bookmark a site with a favicon, the icon appears beside the site’s name in your bookmarks menu or on your bookmarks toolbar. When you create a Live Bookmark, however, Firefox ignores favicons in favor of the standard orange RSS icon
. As a result, your menus may appear somewhat monotonous and individual bookmarks lack identity.
LiveClick allows you to use favicons with your Live Bookmarks, both in your bookmarks menu and on your bookmarks toolbar. So instead of this:
![]()
You have this:
![]()
You can even do this to save space:
![]()
Favicons for livemarks are enabled by LiveClick by default. If you prefer the default RSS icon
, visit LiveClick’s options and uncheck the “Display favicons instead of livemark icon” setting.
Why does the default RSS icon appear instead of a favicon?
There are a few possibilities for this:
1. Not all sites have favicons. If no icon is available, the default RSS icon
will be used.
2. If you have just created a Live Bookmark or changed the favicon setting in LiveClick’s options, the favicon may not be updated immediately. Try loading the bookmark to force the favicon to be displayed or restart your browser.
How do I change a livemark’s favicon?
If you wish to manually change the icon of a livemark (or any bookmark), LiveClick is compatible with the Favicon Picker extension.
How do I disable favicons for livemarks?

This is a really good add-on.
one thing however; certain favicons disappear (same description as jimbo81): if I force the site location to be a definite address (one with a favicon), it works fine until 60 minuts later, when the same site location is automatically reset, making the favicon disappear.

Unfortunately, there’s no fix for this yet. Please see my entry on Favicons, Favicon Picker for alternatives and similar discussions.

Its a great add-on, but only some of my live bookmarks are showing favicons. Facebook & BBC news for example are not working for me. It seems to be the site location in the properties that is the problem - if I change it to the root address (eg, http://www.facebook.com) the icon appears, but it disappears the next time the live bookmark reloads. When I look at the properties again, the site location has been reset to the longer address, that is not associated with a favicon. Any ideas how I can overcome this? Thanks.
