About LiveClick

Adds feed reading, notifications, favicons, and other enhancements to Live Bookmarks. (Addon for Firefox)

LiveClick 0.3.5.1

LiveClick 0.3.5.1 is now available for download. The only difference between this version and LiveClick 0.3.5.0 Final is the inclusion of the Swedish locale sv-SE (thanks Raan!). If you don’t need sv-SE, you can stick with 0.3.5.0, the most recent “official” version.

If upgrading from LiveClick 0.3.4.0 or lower, please note that your preferences may be reset. Check your settings in LiveClick Options to make sure your styles and interval times are the way you want them.

Download v0.3.5.1 (Firefox 3.0 - 3.6.*)

Fully localized in 0.3.5.1: en-US, ca-AD, de-DE, fr-FR, hu-HU, it-IT, nl-NL, pl-PL, sv-SE, zh-TW

- Calls to setTimeout set off (false positive) security warning; will switch to nsITimer in 0.3.6.0

Again, if you find any bugs or have any questions, please leave a comment in this thread, along with your OS and Firefox version. Thanks for all your help!

Next entry: LiveClick 0.3.6.0

Previous entry: LiveClick 0.3.5.0 Beta 2

Very nice, thanks for updating one of my most crucial addons!

Posted by cyruz  on  11/03  at  04:53 PM

I’m using FF 3.5.5 and everything is working smoothly so far.

Posted by WPJ  on  11/18  at  01:23 PM

After update to latest version, LiveClick does not work properly anymore. The symbols are spaced apart and need much more space in my toolbar such that they don’t fit anymore.

The LiveClick menus don’t work at all anymore. If I click on one LiveClick bookmark, instead of openening the submenu with the different new entries, the entire menu closes and the respective main news page is opened. Very weird and annoying.

David.P: I’ve been alerted to some potential spacing problems due to the new counters. This will be addressed in the next build. However, some of that spacing “problem” is actually a proper restoration to Firefox’s defined specifications, which the previous LiveClicks were mistakenly overriding. You can go back to the old appearance by adding a few lines to your userChrome.css file. I don’t know them offhand, but I’ll post an entry on this when I get the chance.

Regarding your second point, that’s the defining feature of this extension and has been its intended behavior since the very first version of LiveClick. You can disable it in LiveClick’s Options (Bookmarks > Live Bookmarks > LiveClick Options). In the menus pane, set the Left click option to “Do nothing.”

Please also include what version of Firefox and operating system in any troubleshooting posts. It’s very difficult to recreate problems without these details. Thanks!

Hi Johnny, what an incredibly fast reply :o

Thanks for the hint regarding the menu behaviour setting. This works now. I did not use this setting at all before, since I used to have all my LiveClick Bookmarks in the Status Bar (via the StatusButtons extension).

See screenshot 1:
http://666kb.com/i/beodaznqmlxnactfg.png
(XP SP3, Firefox v3.5.5, LiveClick v0.3.4.0)

But now they don’t fit anymore because of their wider spacing, instead the LiveClick Bookmarks turn up in an awkward submenu.

See screenshot 2:

(XP SP3, Firefox v3.5.5, LiveClick v0.3.5.1)

Thus, thanks already for posting that userChrome hack you mentioned, on occation.

Cheers David.P

Hello,

I think it’s a bug:
It concerns RSS icon in “awesomebar”.

Steps to reproduce:
- visit a page with RSS feeds (this one for example): you can see RSS icon in the awesomebar.

- now, visit a page without RSS feeds (Google for example): an RSS icon in awesomebar is visible, whereas it shouldn’t. If you click on it, nothing happens.

Someone to confirm ?

Posted by Nojevah  on  12/20  at  07:21 AM

I cannot reproduce that, tried 3 different combinations of websites.

Posted by cyruz  on  12/20  at  07:56 AM

Maybe linked to Firefox version. In my case:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2b6pre) Gecko/20091217 Namoroka/3.6b6pre

Here is what I do:
- create a new profile
- go to this site: RSS icon since RSS feeds
- go to Google: NO RSS icon since NO feeds

- install LiveClick 0.3.5.1 (no options changed)
- go to this site: RSS icon since RSS feeds
- go to Google: RSS icon whereas there’s no feed

100% reproducible in my case. :/

Nojevah: This is a confirmed bug and it will be fixed in the next version of LiveClick. Thanks for letting me know!

I love LiveClick, but if you have to many RSS feeds and LiveClick starts its refresh cycle, FireFox becomes slow as hell.

Isn’t there any kind of possibility to fork a new process of for that refresh method?

Or can’t LiveClick refresh all RSS in one go, instead of doing them one after another?

Hi!

I’ve a little problem: when I right-click on a live bookmarks > property window it appears cut.

Here is a screenshot: http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/6229/senzatitolo1uv.jpg

Ciao!

Posted by Roks  on  01/04  at  08:51 AM

Moby: Unfortunately this is a problem with the way Firefox handles Live Bookmarks. The Firefox developers are aware of the problem and it is being addressed, though we may not see a full solution for a while. I continue to explore ways to alleviate the problem, but it is very difficult, considering the way Firefox currently operates. Sorry about this.

Roks: Thanks for pointing that problem out. I’ll try to fix this in the next version.

I just upgraded to Fx 3.6 RC 1 and LiveClick is forcing the RSS icon to always display in the Smart Location Bar even if the current webpage doesn’t have any web feeds.

Error: feeds is null

Hi there,

I put my live bookmarks in different directories for categorization. If any of these live bookmarks has new items, is it possible to let the title of the corresponding directory become ‘orange’ or ‘bold’? I think that it will be very helpful for users to recognize which directory has new items.

Thanks a lot.

Can you please have LiveClick somehow make it so that I can change the favicon of live bookmarks using Favicon Picker 3?

LiveClick fails to pick up the favicon for many sites. It’s not a big deal obviously but it would be nice to be able to manually set the favicon!

Thanks!

I just upgraded to Fx 3.6 and LiveClick places the RSS icon to always display in the Location Bar even if the current webpage doesn’t have any web feeds.

I am on a Macbook. Hover didn’t work for me. It would be nice to see an option where you could see the feeds laid out in a fashion similar to Brief.

Currently using Firefox 3.6. Am finding Liveclick to be a bit buggy lately. I usually have the Livemark Menu items (open <site>, open unread items, mark as read, etc.) aligned to the top. However, after using the browser for some time, I find the Livemark menu items missing… not for all Livemarks, just for some. (Picture 1 - http://s796.photobucket.com/albums/yy250/Isky_2010/?action=view&current=liveclick1.jpg ) Also, when viewing the affected Livemark menu, the Livemark itself is highlighted in orange, but the menu items are greyed out, almost as if it was stuck in the previous list.

A normal Livemark looks like this (Picture 2 - http://s796.photobucket.com/albums/yy250/Isky_2010/?action=view&current=liveclick2.jpg )

Forgot to add… after restarting firefox, menu problems disappear, but will appear after extended usage of firefox.

Hi!

I get these error messages in the javascript console every now and then.. and there are heaps, if they start to come. Just thought you maybe would like to know.

Thanks for the heads up. I just switched to FF because everyone and their mother kept telling me it was soooo much better. I guess they failed to do their research on security vulnerabilities. Gosh I swear I can’t win for losing. It is much faster though.
