LiveClick 0.3.6.0
LiveClick 0.3.6.0 is now available for download. No new features are in this update, but there are a couple of bug fixes and improved favicon handling.
Download v0.3.6.0 (Firefox 3.0 - 3.6.*)
Fully localized in 0.3.6.0: en-US, ca-AD, de-DE, fr-FR, hu-HU, it-IT, ko-KR, nl-NL, pl-PL, sv-SE, zh-TW
Thanks to cknblue for adding the ko-KR localization to LiveClick!
0.3.6.0 Changelog:
+ Livemark icons are updated immediately upon favicon discovery
+ Live Bookmark favicons are shown in Monitored list options
+ Live Bookmark favicons are imported/exported with LiveClick settings
+ Live Bookmark favicons no longer cleared with private data
+ Bug fix: Feed button in address bar appears more consistently
* nsITimer is used instead of setTimeout to avoid (false positive) security warning
+ Added ko-KR locale
TIP: Favicons occasionally don’t show up for livemarks because their “Site Locations” are set to a redirected address without a linked favicon. To fix this, make sure the “Site Location” is set to the final, non-redirecting address. You may need to visit the location again and restart Firefox to get the favicon to appear properly.
Known issues:
- “Open All in Tabs” does not recognize livemark locations
- Live Bookmarks history inconsistent while in Private Browsing mode
- Live Bookmarks show up as history and persist across sessions
- Counters take up space on toolbar, even when turned off
- Preview tooltips don’t re-appear when set to “Do nothing” after viewing
- Some fields in Live Bookmarks properties dialog extend beyond window size in other locales
- [Ext] Xmarks wants to re-sync more often when using custom Site Locations
- [Ext] Add Bookmark Here 2 conflicts
Leave me a comment if you find other bugs or have any questions on LiveClick 0.3.6.0. Also list your OS and Firefox version to help me troubleshoot your problems. Thanks!

Next entry: Faster Checking from the Toolbar
Previous entry: LiveClick 0.3.5.1
Apparently LiveClick doesn’t respect my setting of having only history show in the Awesome Bar. Now Live Bookmarks are showing in the Awesome Bar even with all history cleared.

Ngamer01: Firefox doesn’t actually treat Live Bookmarks like bookmarks, strangely enough. To get around that and fix a few favicon issues, the latest LiveClick persists Live Bookmarks in history, even if you clear it. I didn’t consider this problem with the Awesome Bar, but I’ll definitely look for a fix in the next version. Thanks for the tip!

How do I get the “excerpt” to NOT disappear once I hover on a new item?
Posted by dblevins on 04/10 at 09:56 AM
I noticed the the shortcut “d” to filp the read/not_read indication is not active unless the “Show ‘Mark All Items as Read’ ” option is selected. I wouldn’t expect that to be the case, i.e. “d” should work even if this option is not selected.
You might relate to “preview” rather than “excerpt” in my previous comment.
BTW keep up the good work—this is a wonderful addon.

I was just going to report a bug about the feed icon in the location bar not disappearing on pages that don’t have feeds. Seems to be fixed with the new version. Thanks.

dblevins: I’m not exactly sure what you want, re: the previews/excerpts. Can you give me an example of what you’d like to happen when you hover to a new item?
I’ll look into the “d” shortcut. Thanks for the tip!

When you roll the cursor over a new item, a preview, usually the 1st paragraph, of the post is displayed in addition to the full title of the item. However, this only happens once. If you move the cursor away from the item and return the cursor to the item, the preview is NOT displayed, only the full title. Changing the item to “read” and back to “not read” does not change this “preview” action.
I’d like this “preview” to be displayed upon hover as long as the item has “not read” status.

dblevins: Preview tooltips should always show an excerpt (if available), so it looks like there’s a bug or a conflict somewhere that’s preventing them from working as expected. Does this happen for all Live Bookmarks or just a select few? What OS and version of Firefox are you using? Do you have any other extensions installed that modify bookmarks in any way?

Seems to happen to all my RSSes.
Vista Home Premium; Firefox 3.6.3 (but happened on earlier version(s) also)
Expand Short URL 1.2
[LiverClick 0.3.6.0]
Xmarks 3.6.16

I’m a huuuge fan of LiveClick, however ever since ‘counters’ were introduced there’s been a bit of a graphic glitch in the mac version. There’s a space reserved for the counter (whether or not they’re enabled in LiveClick’s settings) that is breaking Mac themes (both the default and very popular ones from takebacktheweb.org).
Here’s a screenshot of the issue in the default theme. http://cl.ly/cgf
Hopefully maybe a quick fix could resolve this? (it’s been driving me bonkers for a while now
thanks!)

dblevins: I checked Expand Short URL and I regularly use Xmarks, and I couldn’t find any reason why they would conflict with LiveClick, so it must be something else. Are there other times when LiveClick doesn’t behave as you expect?
jeremy: I forgot to include a fix for that in the previous version, but it will be in the next version. If you can’t wait, you can include the following lines in your userChrome.css:
.bookmark-item[livemark][class="bookmark-item"][counter] .liveclick-counter { display: block !important; }
.bookmark-item[livemark][class="bookmark-item"]:not([counter]) .liveclick-counter { display: none !important; }

Hmmm… LC also operates the same way on my laptop which is running XP Media Center Ed, Vers 2002, svc pack 3 !!

the “showing previews only once” comes from setting on LiveClick Options:
“Appearance” tab/Tooltips “After previewing a live bookmark item:” to “do nothing”
Posted by dblevins on 04/24 at 08:30 PM
dblevins: Yep, that’s the problem. The fix is easy and will be included in the next version of LiveClick. With any luck, I’ll have it posted in the next day or so. Sorry about all the hassle and thanks for tracking this down!

You are welcome.
I’ve got a suggested feature to add:
have a maximum number of items option.
Doesn’t have to be subscription by subscription, one for all of them would be nice.
Posted by dblevins on 04/25 at 03:51 PM
A future version of LiveClick will include an easy way to limit the number of items per Live Bookmark menu, on a global level and on an individual basis.
For the time being, there’s an undocumented LiveClick setting that lets you set a global max per menu. Type about:config into your address bar, filter by liveclick, and modify the extensions.liveclick.maxFeedItems value to the maximum number of items you want to see per menu. Reset to 0 to show all available items.

Thanks for the update. It’s still one of my most important add-ons. Keep up the good work.
