Made to Custom Order
Several significant additions are planned for the next release of LiveClick, many related to custom settings on a feed-by-feed basis.
Restored ability to set a custom Site Location for Live Bookmarks
Since Firefox 3.0, Live Bookmark users lost the ability to permanently change Site Locations. This was due to a change (a valid, but frustrating one for fellow tweakers) that retrieves Site Locations directly from the Live Bookmark’s feed. As a consequence, users couldn’t change the Site Location to something more preferable without Firefox reverting the change the next time the feed was checked.
Thanks to some advice from phil (who submitted the patch for the aforementioned change), the next version of LiveClick will restore the ability to set a custom Site Location. Just call up the Live Bookmark’s properties, modify the Site Location field, and LiveClick will remember the new URL.
Suggested uses for this option: 1) You subscribe to a sports columnist’s feed, but clicking the Live Bookmark takes you to the newspaper’s homepage. Change the Site Location to the columnist’s archive page, for quicker access to his stories. 2) The livemark’s favicon doesn’t show up, because the Site Location redirects from a page without an icon. Change the Site Location to go directly to the page with a favicon.
Option to set a custom update interval for individual Live Bookmarks
The next version of LiveClick will also allow you to specify custom update intervals for each Live Bookmark. If there’s a feed you want checked more often, set it to five minutes; if there’s a feed that’s rarely updated, set it to 12 hours. All your other Live Bookmarks will be checked at the default interval, which you can set as usual.
LiveClick users who do not use the default update interval (60 minutes) will have to change the interval again. Even if you don’t intend to use custom intervals, it’s strongly recommended that you check LiveClick’s Options to make sure Firefox is set to check Live Bookmarks as often as you’d like.
Suggested uses for this option: Everyone knows that Firefox 3.0 tends to freeze up when it’s checking Live Bookmarks. To avoid this happening frequently, reduce the default update interval to 60 or 120 minutes and set a low custom interval (5 or 10 minutes) for your more important Live Bookmarks.
Option to set a custom monitor action for individual Live Bookmarks
Lastly, the next LiveClick will let you define different monitor actions for different Live Bookmarks. Be alerted when Live Bookmarks have new items by default, but for extra special feeds, have them automatically load the new items in tabs.
I can’t imagine too many people needing this feature, but between custom update intervals and a new “Monitor all live bookmarks” setting, this was an easy addition.

Coming Soon!
A preview of the new Live Bookmarks properties dialog, which allows for custom Site Locations, Update Intervals, and Monitor actions.
LiveClick 0.3.5.0 will add a few more features, aside from the ones listed above. This is just a preview to let users know what’s coming. Let me know if you have questions or you’re interested in testing out these new features. Thanks!

Next entry: Accounting for Counters

Cool! I have noticed that two of my live bookmarks never load automatically and I have to manually load them all the time, so hopefully this will be helpful. I was wondering if it was possible to sort of stagger livemark loading, so that it doesn’t lock up Firefox when they all load at once? That would be nifty.

Great add-on! Any chance of adding an ability to filter certain keywords and hide those updates from showing in a live bookmark?
(Say for example that I watch some tech sites but am sick of iphone updates. Could you implement a way for me to block certain keywords so that I don’t even see updates that have those keywords in the title?)

I’ve only just started using LiveClick, but I’ve noticed that feeds tend to vary on the number of items they display. I was wondering if it is possible to put in an option to set a customizable limit to this number.
- My preferred functionality would be to display the (#) most recent feed items.
- If the number of ‘new’ or ‘unread’ items exceeds (#), then they will all be displayed.
- If the number of ‘new’ or ‘unread’ items less than or equal to (#) then the remaining slots will be filled with the most recent ‘read’ items.
This would be a great additional feature, but even without it LiveClick is best Feed Reader extension. I love how it gracefully extends an underdeveloped aspect of Firefox, and doesn’t try to do too much like all the other RSS readers I’ve seen. Keep up to good work.

This addon is really great, good work ![]()
But there are some features I miss.
- 1st it would me nice if the RSS-Folder would display the number of unread/new items. In you example it would be show “BBC News (9)” instead of “BBC News”
- 2nd the folder where all RSS lies should also be display if there are new feeds (i.e. “My Feeds”) so that I doen’t have every time to click to check if it has new items
- 3rd when the notification for new feeds appear it would be nice to choose if it shows the items of every feed seperate or to show the items of all feeds in one notification
But hey its a very cool addon and it replaced my “Brief”-addon

Looking forward to being able to change site locations again - still having problems retaining icons.
When do you plan to release 0.3.5.0? I’d be happy to test it in the meantime. just email me.

Hey, last update over two months ago..
Any progress on that next release?
I could really use the custom interval option ![]()
There are classified forums I follow where a 5 min interval would give me a nice edge,
but to check your page ( this page ) that often would be a wasteful for everyone…

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Rest assured, I read them all and keep a list of everything I’d like to try, if not implement in the next version.
I’ve been preoccupied with another project lately, so I haven’t had much time to work on LiveClick. The next version still needs to go through some beta-testing and get the locales updated. No time frame on all that yet.
Thanks for your support and your patience!

And can you make to sort the feeds? ABC or date aso.

There’s an undocumented setting in LiveClick that can limit the number of items you see in a feed menu. Type “about:config” in your address bar (without the quotes), search for liveclick and set the extensions.liveclick.maxFeedItems preference to a reasonable number. Whatever number you use will be the maximum number of items shown per feed. This setting affects ALL feeds. LiveClick 0.3.6.0 will fully support this feature AND allow you to set a custom max number per feed.
Sortable feeds are currently not in the plans for LiveClick. Sorry about that.
