Favicons, Favicon Picker
Starting with version 0.3.3.0, LiveClick includes limited support for changing Live Bookmark favicons with Favicon Picker 3 (version 0.5), but there’s a small bug in Favicon Picker that needs to be addressed first. I’ve emailed the developer of Favicon Picker 3, so hopefully we’ll be able to sort that out.

LiveClick 0.3.3.0
LiveClick 0.3.3.0 is mostly a maintenance release that fixes a few annoying bugs and resolves some conflicts with other extensions. There are no new features in this version, but it’s highly recommended that you update. Many thanks to custom.firefox.lady who is greatly responsible for getting LiveClick compatible with her extension, Stay-Open Menu.

LiveClick 0.3.2.1
The only differences between this version and 0.3.2.0 are updated locales: ca-AD was re-added and nl-NL fully released. You should download this version if you need either of those locales OR you are using an outdated version of LiveClick (0.3.1.0 or lower). See the Changelog for LiveClick 0.3.2.0 for recent changes.

Locales and Version Numbers
In case you’re curious, LiveClick has adopted a new numbering system since Firefox 3 came out: a.b.c.d. The a represents the actual version, b is the primary objective branch, c is the feature/bug fix counter, and d is the locale counter.
Let me explain using LiveClick 0.3.2.1 as an example, since that will be released shortly. The a here is 0 because I don’t consider LiveClick to be a finished, fully-supported product. The b is 3, which was a rewrite to get LiveClick working on Firefox 3. The c is a 2, which means it’s the second feature/bug fix update since the initial 0.3 build. The d is 1, which indicates one locale change since the 0.3.2 build. The only difference between 0.3.2.0 and 0.3.2.1 is that one locale was added, so you don’t need that version unless you want the new locale. I will not be posting d versions to the Official Firefox Addons site.
Speaking of locales, would anyone be willing to translate LiveClick for us? I’ve got a great group of translators right now, but I’m looking to restore the Spanish (es-ES) and Hebrew (he-IL) locales. Those two are partially complete, but no longer updated. Please contact me.

LiveClick 0.3.2.0
The latest version of LiveClick is now available. As previously indicated, the major feature of version 0.3.2.0 is item previews. Hover over a live bookmark item to see a detailed tooltip include the item’s full title and a short preview. Note that not all items have previews and some feeds have none. It depends on the content provider.
As always, your feedback is appreciated.

The Origin
I’m making an effort to add more content to this site so that’s it more than just a technical support page. I’d like to talk about process, too, and it seems appropriate to start at the beginning with LiveClick’s origin. Feel free to ignore this post if you’re only interested in releases and development discussion.

Weather.com Microsummary
Microsummaries were introduced in Firefox 2, but I’ve only found one instance in which a microsummary is actually useful: weather. I can display the current temperature in a bookmark (or on the bookmarks toolbar) and if I need details or a three-day forecast, I can click the bookmark to visit weather.com. It’s a nice way to make that particular bookmark multi-purpose. For two years I’ve been using a weather microsummary (found here), but it stopped working in the last couple of weeks because weather.com changed their template. Not to worry, I’ve made some minor changes to get the microsummary back on track. If you’re interested, you can view the new source or install it now. See update below.

Updated October 4, 2010: Weather.com made slight changes to the page again. To use this microsummary now, you’ll need to install the new code (view source here). You may also need to bookmark a new page: http://www.weather.com/weather/today/xxxxx (replace the xxxxx with your 5-digit zip code). Be sure to select the Live Title when you bookmark the page.

Preview Tooltips
Good news! LiveClick 0.3.2.0 will include an oft-requested feature: preview tooltips. Currently when you move your mouse cursor over a live bookmark item, a tooltip (aka hover box) will appear showing the full title of the item (only useful if the title is so long that it’s cut off in the menu). In the upcoming version of LiveClick, you’ll see the full title plus a preview of the item:

LiveClick 0.3.1.0
Here’s an updated version of LiveClick that works on Firefox 3.1. The differences between Firefox 3.0 and 3.1 were small, but significant when it comes to LiveClick. Hopefully I’ve addressed the problems so that this version works on both 3.0 and 3.1. No major features in this update, but there a few bug fixes and some optimizations. With any luck, I’ll have a more interesting update before the end of the year that includes some of the more requested features.
