About this site

This site is a work in progress. Feel free to look around, but be prepared for missing links, bad grammar, and poor formatting.

LiveClick 0.3.2.0

The latest version of LiveClick is now available. As previously indicated, the major feature of version 0.3.2.0 is item previews. Hover over a live bookmark item to see a detailed tooltip include the item’s full title and a short preview. Note that not all items have previews and some feeds have none. It depends on the content provider.

As always, your feedback is appreciated.

The Origin

I’m making an effort to add more content to this site so that’s it more than just a technical support page. I’d like to talk about process, too, and it seems appropriate to start at the beginning with LiveClick’s origin. Feel free to ignore this post if you’re only interested in releases and development discussion.

Weather.com Microsummary

Microsummaries were introduced in Firefox 2, but I’ve only found one instance in which a microsummary is actually useful: weather. I can display the current temperature in a bookmark (or on the bookmarks toolbar) and if I need details or a three-day forecast, I can click the bookmark to visit weather.com. It’s a nice way to make that particular bookmark multi-purpose. For two years I’ve been using a weather microsummary (found here), but it stopped working in the last couple of weeks because weather.com changed their template. Not to worry, I’ve made some minor changes to get the microsummary back on track. If you’re interested, you can view the new source or install it now. See update below.

Weather.com Microsummary

Updated July 20, 2010: Once again, Weather.com has redesigned their page. To use this microsummary, you’ll need to install the new code (view source here). You may also need to bookmark a new page: http://www.weather.com/weather/today/xxxxx (replace the xxxxx with your 5-digit zip code). Be sure to select the Live Title when you bookmark the page. Edited again to use current forecast instead of forecast trend.

Preview Tooltips

Good news! LiveClick 0.3.2.0 will include an oft-requested feature: preview tooltips. Currently when you move your mouse cursor over a live bookmark item, a tooltip (aka hover box) will appear showing the full title of the item (only useful if the title is so long that it’s cut off in the menu). In the upcoming version of LiveClick, you’ll see the full title plus a preview of the item:

LiveClick 0.3.1.0

Here’s an updated version of LiveClick that works on Firefox 3.1. The differences between Firefox 3.0 and 3.1 were small, but significant when it comes to LiveClick. Hopefully I’ve addressed the problems so that this version works on both 3.0 and 3.1. No major features in this update, but there a few bug fixes and some optimizations. With any luck, I’ll have a more interesting update before the end of the year that includes some of the more requested features.

LiveClick 0.3.0.0 Final

Here is the final release of LiveClick 0.3.0.0. It contains mostly bug fixes. I decided to bump all requested options to the next version rather than try to include them in this version. I’ve just uploaded it to AMO, so until that goes public, use the link below to download. As always, if you encounters any problems, please let me know. Thanks!
