LiveClick 0.3.5.0 Beta 2
Here, at long last, is the second beta for LiveClick 0.3.5.0. This contains mostly fixes for the first beta and adds proper compatibility for Firefox 3.6 Beta (this build won’t work on 3.6a1). If this is your first time using 0.3.5.0, please note that your preferences may be reset. Check your settings in LiveClick Options to make sure your styles and interval times are the way you want them.
I’ve tried to address most of the issues people had with previous versions of LiveClick, but I may not have fixed everything. If you find any bugs, please leave a comment in this thread, along with your OS and Firefox version. Thanks for your support!

Next entry: LiveClick 0.3.5.1
Previous entry: LiveClick 0.3.5.0 Beta
Great update.
Minor glitch found:
..set custom Site Locations for Live Bookmarks…
works fine for normal rss feeds and together with favicons, but not for videofeeds like http://www.ted.com. The site location automatically resets itself to the feed site.
Keep up the good work!

...or actually I was wrong, some site locations for normally “edited” rss-feeds seem to automatically reset themselfs after being monitored :((

Gagge_tah: Thanks for the info. I’ll see if I can figure out why some custom locations are inconsistently saved. If you notice any other problems (or discover details that might be helpful), please let me know.

I found the source of the custom locations bug and it will be fixed in the final build. Thanks for your help, Gagge_tah.

Thanks for the new beta Johnny, I am still having the same problem with certain feeds not retaining their favicons. http://www.independent.co.uk is one website that causes me this problem. Hope this helps you to confirm the bug fix, and I look forward to the next update! Thanks

jimbo81: The next version of LiveClick (that is, v0.3.6.0) will be primarily dedicated to fixing and improving favicon performance. It’s something I haven’t spent much time on, but I know the inconsistencies are annoying to plenty of users.
Feel free to list any other sites/feeds that don’t show the icon that you expect.

I haven’t found when or what reverts my site locations back yet, but a couple of sites I’ve had problems with retaining their favicons are.

Heya - my biggest gripe with LiveClick is that it takes all CPU power when it’s checking for new feed entries. It’s much too aggressive, videos will stutter, if it checks while I’m typing something, the text will lag and so on. Any chance that will change?

Unfortunately, it’s more a problem with Firefox than with LiveClick. That is, you’d see similar (if not exactly the same) symptoms whether or not LiveClick is installed. It’s definitely annoying and the Firefox developers have made some progress in fixing it, but you won’t see a true fix until Firefox 3.7 or 4.0.
I’ll write about one of the proposed solutions soon because it will likely require another rewrite of LiveClick. In the meantime, here are some BugZilla threads that discuss the problem:

Thanks for all the hardwork on liveclick! I do have one bug with the newest version when using any of the Grapple themes from http://www.takebacktheweb.org/. I think LiveClick is reserving space for the new counter (even if disabled) because there’s now a graphic gap in the mouse-over of the feed name in the toolbar. The gap is between the feed name and the theme’s custom livemark rss icon that appears to the right of the feed name. If you go to the above site, you can see the look of the dark grey mouse-over behind the star icon in the toolbar of the screenshot for GrApple Luscious (you can also see the custom livemark icon in the bookmark right next to the star for Planet Mozilla). I realize that it’s hard to fix bugs that crop up in random themes, but GrApple’s themes are really popular on the mac. Thanks!

Thanks, jeremy, for that report on Grapple. I’ll look into that and hopefully have a fix in the next version.
